 "For Prize Contest"

Denver Ind.

W. Atlee Burpee Co.
Philadelphia, Penn.

Dear Sirs:

"It is a pleasure to know that Burpees seeds will grow", but as I am no poet I will write the story of my experience with Burpees seeds.

My main crop is tomatoes. Early in the spring I planted the seeds in the hotbed afterwards resetting them in rows four feet apart. I cultivated the ground around the plants four or five times then placed straw around them to keep them clean, free from rot and also keep the weeds down.

I set out seven hundred ninety stalks' Early jewel plants which grew into large thrifty bushes. Off my patch I sold two hundred fifty bushels of first class tomatoes besides those for our own use.

Your watermelons, especially Tom Watson Kleckly Sweet and Sugar Stick were fine being so sweet flavored and large.
