Dear Harold- 

As now, Parkes telephoned you we have an option on the beautiful Goya - 

now as regards the price: it is fifty thousand to the owner without a selling commission to me. It means, in other words, that we should ask at least fifty five thousand, (we are certainly entitled to 10%) - you and I would split these five thousand dollars- 

There is always of course the possibility or the hope that the owner would accept a slightly lower price? 

I realize, dear Harold, that it is not, financially talking an interesting business but with conditions as they are we can't neglect anything, furthermore it is, in my mind, without doubt, one of the most beautiful portraits by the artist - 

I am having a marvelous rest cure, etc.-
