Opposite the fireplace elevation is a delicate book cabinet after Sheraton with all its original painted decoration. A pair of Chippendale mahogany consoles are placed in the windows. The left end of the room has a place for the Chickering Ampico piano. A small convex mirror with pagoda top is placed above the piano.

A pair of Louis XV elbow open armchairs, covered in fine aubusson floral tapestry, stand by the fireplace. To its left is a small writing desk veneered with tulipwood with interesting Canton enamel handles inlaid with precious stones. On the other side of the fireplace is a small kingwood cabinet with wire grille sides and doors. Eighteenth Century occasional tables are placed with the various chair groups. The rug blends with the entire scheme, being an old Agra example.

[[underlined]]HALL[[/underlined]] by James Pendleton, Inc.
(Lighting by Thomas S. Kelly)

Derain, André - "Flowers"

The hall is uniquely yet very practically lighted by strong electric light bulbs concealed above a stretched muslin ceiling giving a clear, even illumination which expresses the best function of light: It calls attention not to itself but to the objects it illuminates. This is especially desirable in the particular color scheme of gun-metal which it would be difficult to light adequately otherwise. The dark, neutral color of the walls makes an especially attractive background for the high lacquer of the Derain flower painting and the glittering crystal appliques.

Other items of interest in the hall are:

Carpet - Empire, green

Pr. Stands - Empire, gold leaf and white

Mirror - About 1820

Console Table - Louis XVI, white marble top, pickled pine base

Sofa - Empire, upholstered in striped satin

Pr. Tabourettes - Louis XVI, upholstered in sage green satin

Pr. Crystal Appliques - Waterford, about 1810
