July   , things of little account.
Saw one Arctomys & four Deer. Shot at one deer but it was too far off. A doe & fawn came out of a thicket to drink at a brook.
The fawn was spotted.
In afternoon skinned & stuffed the specimens, sketched some, & hunted bats in the evening.

" [[ditto for: July]] 12, Went to traps & farther up in the hills than before.
Found the deer, that I shot at yesterday dead & spoiled. Shot at another but didnt get it.
Caught a Weasel, a Skunk, a Zapus, & a Thomomy; killed some birds; shot at a Woodchuck.
Cloudy in evening so I couldnt hunt bats.
A pleasant day but threatens rain in evening.
