Aug. 4. Collected some of the plants that were new to me & return to the ranch, got my dinner, identify most of the plants & recorded notes on them.

Started out again at 3 P.M. but could not reach Rock Creek today so stopped for the night at a ranch twenty miles this side.

Killed 3 Sage Grouse, saw lots more. The young are over half grown & are in broods of 6 – 12.

" [[ditto for: Aug.]] 5. Sunday, a cold windy day, too cold to be out doors without an overcoat. Started in morning for Rock Creek & made the last 20 miles of the stage trip before 9 A.M.

The road is all the way over sagebrush plains – the west slope of the Laramie Mts.
Saw three small droves of Antelope, some Sage Grous, lots of S. richardsoni, 3 S. 13lineatus, 2 young eagles sitting on the ground, & Prairie Dog holes.
