Apr. 23. Left Yuma at 9 A.M. Reached Texas Hill at noon. Followed the Gila Valley all the way. In P.M. went to the mountains & set 16 traps. Shot 2 young Spermophiles. A hard & hot tramp up 12 miles. Got back late. Specimens spoiled, feet blistered, tired & fearfully thirsty. 107 by station agents thermometer. [[end page]] [[start page]] Apr. 24. Went to my traps up on mountain. Caught one Perognathus - it was cooked. Killed my first Mockingbird & saw another. Got back at one oclock very tired & used up with the heat. 105 [[degree symbol]] by the agents thermometer 98 [[degree symbol]] by mine. The wind feels like a breath from an oven. Caught a Spermophile & set more Dipodomys traps in evening.
