May 30. Caught 2 Hesperomys eremicus. Killed another big Gray Squirrel & a S. grammurus & a Chipmunk & some birds. Made skins, set traps, & hunted.

Killed a little Bat.

Cloudy in evening.

" [[ditto for: May]] 31 Caught a new kind of Thomomys with a black face & back.

Went up on the summit, could look down on Tucson & Mammoth & Camp Grant & see away in Mexico.

The pine & spruce are larger at the summit. There are popples & maples in the gulches.

Strawberries & lupines & painted cups & yellow honeysuckles are in blossom. grass is luxuriant. Saw several Bear tracks, one very large & several smaller, They were fresh & the mule was afraid.
