Found it very dry & bare, & few birds. no gophers but some Tamias quadrivittatus. At 2 P.M. started for Bridger & arrived there at 4 - 10 miles. A very dry country all the way till we reach the creek valley at Bridger & then quite fertile. Found a team at Bridger & went 5 miles farther up the creek so as to get on a ranch. Stopped at W. Harvey's ranch. A hot day. Frost in morning that killed potatos. Killed a fine Cynomys columbianus by the road & saw a few more.
