Oct. 9. Went up to the foot-hills north of town & hunted most all day among the rock & oak brush. 
Killed 2 Gray Squirrels & 2 Tamias pallidus & a water ouzel - all seen for the first time. Didnt get home till after dark.

" [[ditto for: Oct.]] 10. Went to town in morning & met Dr. Merriam. We drove up to the foot-hills & hunted awhile, got a Tamias pallidus, & Spermophilus grammurus. Came back to Mr. Stokers, measured the specimens, & returned to the train at 5:30 P.M. Few specimens but a very profitable day. Skinned the things in evening.

" [[ditto for: Oct.]] 11. Finished skinning & stuffing the specimens on hand in forenoon. In afternoon set 21 traps & hunted. Got a Musk Rat & 3 arvicolae in evening.
