Dec. 15. Started early & reached Pangwich at dark, about 30 miles.

Entered a narrow rocky caƱon just past Circle Valley, followed it about 8 miles & then came to a wide valley again with farms & meadow & brush along river. Snow about 2 inches deep in canon & the rest of way, none found in valley before, mountains all covered with snow, & with scrub cedars & Pinus edulis & a few P. ponderosa & spruce.

Sage & Greese brush in valley. & lots of Argenti shepherdi along streams, berries still on bushes.
(This is abundant from Nephi.)

Holes of (evidently) Cynomys gunnisoni near Panguitch, snow around them but no tracks.

Half a dozen Deer tracks seen & lots of Lepus tex. tracks.

Transcription Notes:
Pangwich = Vernon probably means Panguitch. Plant species Argenti shepherdi is mentioned on the next page as Argentea shepherdi. -@siobhanleachman
