Sep. 6 to 30th, Have been to the Grand Canon to Moencopie. Hav'nt kept journal. C.H.M. left Oct. 1st.

Oct. 1 Broke up our camp at Little Spring & I took some grub & my gun & traps & horse & went down to an old A1 cattle camp 3 miles N.E. of Partridge Spring & set 28 traps for Perognathus pincilatus
Saw a [[strikethrough]] Isol [[/strikethrough]] drove of about 10 Antelope & one alone in another place.
Shot a Prairie Dog & caught an Spermophilus spilosoma, skinned these. Made my bed on an old table so the scorpions cant get me. My canteen baked & I have but a pint of water for 24 hours.

" [[Ditto for: Oct.]] 2 Caught 8 Hesperomys sonoriensis & a Neotoma but no Perognathus.
Reset my traps & took 8 with me & set along the road in lower valley.
Started for Smiths Spring & followed up the cañon as far as I could. Had to turn back where the cañon becomes narrow & rocky & steep, at 7400 feet. Pseudotsuga douglasi begins in the canon here. I found no water except in a little hole dug by a sheep herder in the bottom of the run below the cañon.
