Popples run up to 9500 feet on N.W. slope & on S.W. slope to 9900 feet. & down to below the ranch. P. douglasi runs up to 9200 feet on crest of ridge & as far down as timber comes which is to 8900.
Pinus flexilis runs up to 9350 on S.W. slope Pinus ponderosa extends up to 8850 feet on S.W. side 
On S.W. slope, Picea englemani & Pinus aristata & Abes concolor begin near the same level, at 9350, these three form the timber at 10000 feet.
No P. aristata found on the N.W. slope. 
The barometer registered 8500 on return to Bucklars, which is 150 feet higher than it read at same place in morning. It worked slowly & by jumps when high up & probably did not register near up to the real altitude. 
I found no game or specimens that I wanted except a Tamias 4vittatus & Red Squirrel.
Got back about 2 P.M. made some skins & after supper went up the crate butte in Bucklars field. Started with barometer at ranch at 8475, at bottom of crater on E. Side 8300, top of crater butte 8650
