April 12. Caught another Geomys & 6 Spermophilus 13lineatus, & 2 Hesperomes & a big Cat.
killed some more birds & set more traps. Made up skins & hunted, 
A cold morning & cool & windy all day.
looks like storm in evening.

" [[Ditto for: April]] 14 Caught a S. 13lineatus & 2 Onychomys.
Made 5 mammal skins.
Went to town after noon so as to go out to Kenedy in the morning.
Met Mr. Bates & had a good chat with him. He is keen & accurate. is well posted on botany & knows something of birds & mammals. Has a lot of fossil bones, some of Saurians & others of large mammals.
Cloudy & not very warm.

" [[Ditto for: April]] 15 Left Valentine at 8 A.M. in buckboard stage with 4 passengers & other baggage, so my box & valise had to be left for another team to bring out. Traveled the same old sandy road, across the Niobrara R. & then up the Garden Creek Valley.

Vegetation hardly started,
