& stopped for the night. It is on the Lapparel Creek & rocky hills all around. Lots of little side creeks of cold, pure water. Willows & other brush along them. Staid with Mr. Howard.
Found Prairie Dogs. - C. ludovocianus - all along the road - Saw no Pocket Gopher hills till [[strikethrough]] well [[/strikethrough]] in Lapparel Creek Valley.
Set 13 traps before dark. Killed a Rabbit with long ears. S. 13lineatus common all along & at Beaver.
A warm day, Can see lots of snow on Mts. Phlox hoodi & Viola nuttallii & Thermopsis rhombifolia in blossom at Douglas & all along road.

May 2 Got out early & went to traps as soon as I could see - Caught a Thomomys & 2 Arvicolas & a Hesperomys, skinned what I could before starting & took skins along rolled up.
Left Beaver at 5:30, still climbing, followed up creek valley & then crossed ridges into other creek valleys, Timber on the hills. Pinus p. scopulorum - & a Spruce. Wide grassy parts between the ridges, grass thick & green, good feed for slock. Lots of little streams running down the gulches, fed by the snow banks above.
Viola nuttallii common all along. Phlox woodi(?) abundant in solid mats of
