Found a Porcupine but he got into a hole. Cloudy & not very warm. " [[Ditto for: May]] 9 Caught 3 Thomomys, an Arvicola longicaulis an Onychomys, & killed a Tamias lateralis. Went up the caƱon to top of hill & onto the highest peak near here, probably a 1000 feet above the valley, stunted Pinus flexilis grow on the very top. Found some Tamias lateralis on rocks on the high hills. Snow is 50 feet deep - in places more - on the north side of steep hills Rained & snowed for about an hour in P.M. Cold all day. Put up the specimens, set a trap for Wild Cat. Cold morning & cool all day.

a few minor edits. Can's solve spizella mystery either, but think aranecca is probably what it says, so I removed the brackets -@meg_shuler UPDATE on a later page he writes it more clearly and spelled differently and it is Spizella arenacea, which appears to be a subspecies of S. pusilla the Field Sparrow -@meg_shuler
