[[left page blank]] [[end page]] [[start page]] May 11 Sunday - Caught a big Wild Cat in my trap - Weighed 31 lbs. Very rufus & spotted. It was caught by one toe in a No. 3 Beaver trap. Had kept still & not hurt its toe much or done much scratching around, but had eaten up a whole Woodchuck that was used for bait. A cool day with squalls of snow & rain. " [[Ditto for: May]] 12 Didnt catch much. Skinned the Wild Cat & other things. In P.M. set Badger & mouse traps down in the valley & along creek. Cold & windy & I could not find any Spizella arenacea. Squally of snow & rain. " [[Ditto for: May]] 13 A flurry of snow laid on the ground in the morning so as to make it white. Cold all day. Didn't catch much, set a few traps over, shot 3 Spizella arenacea, made up the skins of these & 6 mammals. Begun on my report in evening. Several squalls of snow.
