Each of the boys caught an Onychomys & Dutcher got 2 Dipodops & Streater 2 Tamias, besides other things. 
A very pleasant day.

July 12 Took Dutchers horse & went up to Monroe's ranch, 25 miles up the Blackfoot R. on  Cedar Cr. to get a team.
Crossed the sagebrush plains that can all be irrigated & will be sometime. Went through strips of black sand & small sand mounds. Saw lots of tracks of Dipodops & Mice & Spermophiles. Saw a few S. mollis & some Tamias 4vittatus. Caught a half fledged Curlew. Thomomys were numerous near & among the hills.
Followed up the caƱon of the Blackfoot where the river has cut down from one to 300 feet through the basaltic lava. 
There are large meadows & ranches along the stream. Went up the canon about 12 miles. passed a lot of ranches grass is good all over the hills. Cedars become common, large brush & berry bushes are all along the streams. Killed an Icteria v. longicauda & saw & heard a lot more. Killed a Tamias &
