Oct. 28. Caught 6 Perognathus olivaceus & 4 Onychomys & a Hesperomys eremicus & 2 H. sonoriensis. Did not get a Neotoma.
Made up 11 of the specimens before starting & did not get off till 1 P.M.
Followed down the caƱon, crossed the river 6 times & went through 8 gates.
Came out to Carlin at 4 P.M. & camped a mile below Carlin at 5 oclock. I set traps till dark, set 35. Found the holes of some Dipodops.
Some mice eat the seeds of Erotia lanata, which is common here on the hills - Only rarely seen before -
Atreplex confortifolia is very abundant -
A cool morning & warm day.
Road sandy & dusty, only came 12 miles -
It is much warmer up on the hills [[strikethrough]] in [[/strikethrough]] mornings than in the valley. The mice in my lower traps were frozen hard, those in the traps high up were not frozen-
The Indians sleep out doors without blankets & to keep warm keep a fire all night & lie close to it. They generally go high up upon a hillside.
