[[underline]] Battle Mountain, Nevada. [[/underline]]

We are camped at a spring, 3 miles South of town & close to the foot hills at the side of the valley. The spring forms a pond about 10 rods long by 5 rods wide. The pond is full of big grass & sedges. A little water runs out but does not go far. Sarcobatus & Atriplex confertifolia & sall weeds & salt grass grow all around. The ground is full of alkali. A lot of big thorn bushes much like Shepherdia argentia grow along the run just below the spring.

Had breakfast before daylight & then went to traps as soon as I could see. Caught a Dipodops, 5 little Perognathes, an Onychomys, a Thomomys, a Lepus texianus, & 3 Hesperomys sonoriensis. Henry caught 2 round tailed Neotomas - Made up 13 skins, packed a box of skins, & wrote up some of my back notes - Henry set more Neotoma traps but I did not get time to set any more -
A cold clear morning, a few clouds & windy through the day, am afraid of storm.
Intend to start for Austin in the morning.
