was common on the mountains near that place. The nuts of these pines are larger & longer than those of P. edulis -
I heard Cyanocephalus cyanocephalus several times but could not see any.
Crossed the divide at noon - there was some snow around where we crossed & higher up [[strikethrough]] it [[/strikethrough]] the ground was white -
There is a ranch near the divide that would be a good place to stop to collect in summer now it is too cold to do much high up - 
Saw 3 Tamias pictus near upper end of caƱon, killed one, saw another at Silver Creek. Thomomys hills thick all along the meadows 
Saw a Coyote - 
Camped at 3 P.M. on Silver Creek, set a lot of traps for Thomomys & Neotomas & mice. Made up some skins in evening - Are still 15 miles from Austin, have come 18 miles today -
Found a striped snake.
A chilly day, mostly clear but a raw wind blowing.
