[[underline]] Nov. 15 [[/underline]] - Started at 8 A.M. Followed along the east side of middle of valley, In about 10 miles came to another ranch & big fields. A large part of the valley is here bare ground except for White Sage - Erotia lanata - This covers great fields so the ground tooks white. The soil is good where it grows & large fields have been plowed & irrigated & sown to barley with good results. A settlement of 6 or 8 good ranches extend along here for about 10 miles. Much barley & hay are raised & stock kept.
We strike Reese R. at the first ranch & keep near it the rest of the day. It is a stream too big to jump across. The water is muddy at first, but after passing the ranches it becomes clear, is more rapid & there are fish in it. Numerous ditches are taken out of the river at the ranches, so it is larger above them.
There seems to be no wild meadow land after passing Welches ranch - Crops are raised by irrigating above there.
About 6 miles before we camped there are no ranches, the creek has high banks, is rapid Sheep have eaten all the feed, so we could not camp. Indended to camp early but could not find a decent place where we could get water & feed & a place to set traps.
