Packed up & started up the valley at 8 A.M. Traveled slowly & camped at 3 P.M. Came 17 3/4 miles according to the rodometer which read 7175 rev.
Camped just where the valley narrows up & the PiƱon & Cedars come down to the valley - on both sides. Are nearly opposite Arc Dome, which is said to be the highest peak in the Toiyabe Range. There was a signal service station on it some years ago.
It is a bare, sharp peak, not much above some other peaks.
There are ranches all along the valley so far, mostly stock & hay ranches, but considerable barley & oats are raised - There are large natural meadows along the valley, Part of them are made by big springs. No streams come in on the west side, but a number of small ones do from the east.
There is a good deal of alkalie along on low ground. Salt Grass & big Rye Grass are abundant, but there are better grasses growing on the meadows.
Sarcobotus, Atriplex, Tetradymia, Artemesia & Erotia are common all along. There is a rapid fall to the valley up here & we are a good deal above our last camp.
A nice warm day.
Set traps till dark, got out 32.
