here is a salt pond 20 or 30 rods across just below Hot Springs & this seems to be the lowest spot in the valley. A large region of bare salt crusted mud extends around the pond & away down the valley. Salicornia grows around the edge farther out than any other plant. Suaeda & salt grass come next to it along the edge & a small leaved Atriplex a little farther back. The mesqeuits, of both species, grow where the ground is damp & very full of salt & soda.
The fresh water creek [[strikethrough]] does not [[/strikethrough]] comes [[strikethrough]] quite [[/strikethrough]] down to the flat, and runs quite a good stream. [[strikethrough]] farther up [[/strikethrough]]
Several Bats of two sizes came to the spring to drink in evening but it was too late to shoot them when we saw them so we leave them till another evening.
Rained a few drops in night, just enough to make us bring our beds in the tent.
A warm morning, +46[[degree symbol]] at daylight & 64[[degree symbol]] at 1 P.M. clear & pleasant all day.
Sent our man - Trask - to Darwin for grains with 3 pack horses.
Got our mail from Panamint.
