south of Bennetts Wells to as far up valley as we can see. There is a patch of them on east side of valley opposite where we come out of Long Valley. The Funeral Mts. rise abruptly from east side of Valley. are rough rocky streaked with red & brown & bright colors, look perfectly bare from top to bottom. Probably a few plants grow on them. no snow on them.
The Panamint Mts. are bare & rough, but have snow & scrubby timber near the top. The sides of the valley back from the salt ground are scattered over with Larrhea mexicana, Atriplex [[blank space]]
The shrubs are mostly small & far between. Salicornia [[blank space]], grows along edge of flats, also some salt grass & Suaeda.
Arrow weed, [[blank space]], grows along valley near Bennetts Well. The first I have seen this trip. It is abundant along Colorado & Virgin Rivers & over low country of Arizona & Sonora.
A broad salt crusted flat extends along bottom of valley.
It is warmer than we have seen for a long time. +51[[degree symbol]] at 6 A.M. 75[[degree symbol]] at 12, 65[[degree symbol]] at 6:30 P.M. Clear & no wind. Plants show more signs of growth than in Paramint Valley. Larrhea is in blossom. other plants near it. Mesquite are green with leaves, apparently old ones.
