two & set 23 traps, Set traps till after dark, Camped in canon. built a good fire out of Bigelovia stumps, ate a dry lunch, spread [[strikethrough]] o [[/strikethrough]] our blankets on some loose gravel & went to bed.
The Funeral Mts. are very bare, rough, bright, & variegated colored, with a steep part. 
There are lots of small pieces of what seems to be borax in the washes, & white stripes along the sides of the mountain.
We went up the wash 2 or 3 miles to where it was 1500 feet above the valley, Wanted to go higher, but had not time.
Found some signs of Neotomas & Hesperomys Saw Coyote tracks & found a Lynx skull. Saw Jack Rabbits tracks & some little Fox tracks along side of valley.
Plants were scarce, Coville looks out for them. Saw a Raven & an Amphispiza 32[[degree symbol]] at Bennetts Walls at 6:30, on east side of valley 73[[degree symbol]] at 1 P.M. 72[[degree symbol]] at 2 P.M. 55[[degree symbol]] at 8 P.M.

[[underlined]] Jan. 24 [[/underlined]] We slept cold & were glad to get out early, ate a lunch & started at daylight. Took up traps as we came down caƱon - caught 2 [[strikethrough]] Hairb [[/strikethrough]] hairy tailed, big eared Hesperomes & a Neotoma. Took a circle around through valley to see a patch of Larrhea mexicana & then across to camp
