Reached camp at 11, rather tired but had more water than we wanted in our gallon canteens. I threw out a little on the way. Walked about 10 miles & carried a pack of blanket & traps & canteen.
Made up skins in P.M.
39 [[degree symbol]] at our camp in cañon at 6:50 A.M., 30 [[degree symbol]] at same time at Bennetts Wells. Clouded up in P.M. & looked like rain for awhile.

[[underlined]] Jan. 25 [[/underlined]] Sunday. a quiet day in camp. 63 [[degree symbol]] at 7 A.M. 80 [[degree symbol]] at 2:45.

I took a horse & started for Panamint early in morning to get the mail & to set traps along the way. Went about 10 miles S.W. of camp & struck the cañon through which the trail goes up. Began setting traps at end of cañon, set among rocks & in brush.
Found a Thomomys hill & put in my only No. 0 trap. Found them common higher up.
Came to the first spring about 4 or 5 miles above end of canon. The first is a small spring, has a patch of grass & reeds around it. Lots of new plants begin in the cañon. Junipers & Pinus monophylla begin a little higher up.
