Had a fever all night & have chills today feel generally miserable, took some pills & quinine.  Made up the skins, & laid around camp.  Had to pack all our surplus baggage & send to Furnace Creek by the wagon to be stored while we make a months trip with a mule & 2 burros to pack our outfit.

[[underlined]] Jan. 29 [[/underlined]]
Dikeman took his buckboard & started on the road to Saratoga Spr.  We packed the mule & burros & started at 9.  Coville, Nelson, Dikeman & I besides our cook & packer.  Each took a canteen of water & the mule carried 10 gallons.  Traveled till dark, a little over 20 miles.  Camped in the Amergosa Wash.  Set a few traps in the dark.

Got an earlier start.  Gave the water all to the animals except that in our canteens.  Had a lighter load & made better time.  Followed up the bed of the Amergosa to Saratoga Spring where we arrived at sundown.  Probably came 30 miles.  Dikeman did not get in till 10 & left his line 15 miles back.
Found plenty of water & grass but both poor. The water is warm, 83 [[degree symbol]] in the warm spring
