In [[strikethrough]] Nov. [[/strikethrough]] Dec. 1890 while coming through [[strikethrough]] Columbus Salt Marsh Valley and [[/strikethrough]] Fish Lake valley, western Nevada, I was told by people living [[strikethrough]] in the valleys [[/strikethrough]] there that ^[[insertion]] there was [[/insertion]] a herd of wild mustangs [[strikethrough]] lived [[/strikethrough]] on top of the high plateau at the north end of the White Mts., just over the Calif. line [[strikethrough]] west of Fish Lake Valley. [[/strikethrough]]
There were said to be some fine animals among them, but they were very difficult to [[strikethrough]] catch or [[/strikethrough]] rope and few had ever been caught.

[[underlined]] Jan. 3, [[/underlined]] Set my traps out along base of hill, did not do much all day.
Nelson got another Perognathus & a little Dipodomys. We each killed a bat in evening.
45 [[degree symbol]] at sunrise clear & pleasant. There are lots of flint chips & pieces of broken arrowheads around the ford where Indians seem to have camped for ages.
