Hokuto Taihoku = Hokkaido Hokuto and Taihoku are actually localities on Taiwan (see, for example, p. 784 'From Taihoku via Hokuto to Tamsui' in this old guidebook to Japan, Korea, and Formosa [now Taiwan]: https://goo.gl/CN8ozt). Furthermore, G. Nakahara was known to have collected on Taiwan (see p. 3: https://goo.gl/5Qzb55). Taihoku was an old prefecture of Taiwan; Hokuto (a hot springs) is in what is now New Taipei municipality. -@mnathan
