Aug. 8 [[/underlined]] Found Ragsdale and talked with him awhile. Got a place to stay 3 miles N.E. of Gainesville with Mr. J.L. Hayes, on the prairie a mile from the Cross Timbers.
[[underlined]] Aug. 10 [[/underlined]] Dutcher arrived

[[underlined]] Aug. 15 [[/underlined]] Have been a week at this place and will leave today. Have not caught much. Small mammals are very scarce. Skunks, Minks & Possums & Coon are numerous. Ragsdale seems afraid to give me any positive information for fear I will make some use of it. Thinks he ought to be paid for the bird reports he has sent in

We have worked over into the Cross Timbers 2 or 3 miles and Dutcher made a trip to and across the Red R. 

The ants have eaten several of our best specimens of small mammals 

The place has not proved proffitable. Dutcher now goes south, stopping a few days near Ft. Worth, then out on the Brazos River. I work N.W. Preble is at Dougharty and Coleman at Council Bluffs.
Left Gainesville at 5 P.M. and it grew dark just before I reached
