November 1st., 1938. Dear Colin Agnew: I was such interested to receive your letter of October 19th., for which I thank you. I would have liked you to mention a price, as Mr. Schiff had asked me to post him on this matter, and not having seen the portrait since have had it cleaned, I am, of course, at a loss to answer him. Will you also let me know how you intend dealing in this connection, from a purely business angle, as there are three different parties concerned - the principal, Mr. Schiff, you and myself. Your suggestion of approaching Dr. Friedlander is, I think, an excellent one. I shall certainly give you no advice on that topic as you have, I am sure, very definite ideas on the subject. Don't you think, however, that it might be good to send him a photograph first, of the cleaned portrait, as he might judge of the improvement from the print? Do let me hear from you and do give me an idea of price, as I am anxious to satisfy Mr. Schiff, who - you will admit - has been particularly nice in this whole question. With personal regards, Yours very sincerely, (Germain Séligmann) Colin Agnew, Esq., Thomas Agnew & Sons, Ltd., 43 Old Bond Street, London, W. I, England.
