This catalogue will be one of the most important ever prepared of Mexican birds, the collection being peculiarly valuable on account of the very careful memoranda of localities and dates which have been recorded for each specimen, and also from the fact that the geographical distribution of many of our North American species is greatly extended. There are five entirely new species in the collection, viz., [[underlined]]Amphispiza ferrari-perezi[[/underlined]], [[underlined]]Anas diazi[[/underlined]], [[underlined]]Philortyx personatus[[/underlined]], a [[underlined]]Pipilo[[/underlined]] and a humming bird. These new species Professor Ferrari-Perez has given the Curator permission to describe, and also to make notes on other specimens in the collection. The duplicates, of which there are many, are promised to the National Museum; and after his return to Puebla the Professor will send to the National Museum a more extensive collection, formed from lists which I am to prepare for his guidance.
