[[underlined]]Special work accomplished.[[/underlined]]

The principal matters requiring mention under this head are the following:-

(1) The species represented in the exhibition series were checked off in Gray's "Hand-list" and Sclater and Salvin's "Nomenclator Avium Neotropicalium," with the view of having exhibition labels prepared and also to ascertain the deficiencies of the collection.

(2) After the above-mentioned task was completed, the entire skin series was carefully searched for specimens to supply deficiencies in the exhibition series, and several hundred of such specimens put aside for mounting.

(3) The specimens yet to be transferred to new stands were counted.

(4) A list of books and other publications most urgently needed for the scientific work of the department, was prepared at the request of Professor Langley, Assistant Secretary, of the Smithsonian Institution.

I am, very respectfully,
