We exchanged our dogs for reindeer in the first Koriak camp near Podkaquernaya and continued the same mode of travelling till Kammennoi, head of Perjinsk Gulf where we arrived November 15th

Here we head to meet another party which Col. Bulkley promised to land at the mouth of the Anadyr river end of July or beginning of August They had to ascend the river in boats or in a small steamer to village Anadyrok and to proceed overland either to Kammennoi or Ghijiga. I expected to find them at the rendezvous.

I left San Francisco with my small party July 3d, the main expedition had to start three days later. Our passage had been very long but the prevailing south western winds, which kept us at sea for nearly fifty days, were favorable to Col. Bulkley's party, which had also a steamer to help them on every occasion.
