pagans. This clergyman has been recently transferred to Ghijiga from Anadyrsk, where he had spent nine years, he gave me some very interesting informations about Anadyr River/having been several times at its mouth, about the country and its inhabitants.

The Russian traders – mostly half breeds I met at Kammenoi knew well the country from Okhotsk to Ghijiga and Anadysk. From the informations they gave me, from all on you before I acquired the certainty that the northern part of Siberia, namely the Anadyr Country, would give us the least tro^[[u]]ble, but that the country between Ghijiga, Okhotsk, Ajan would require the closest exploration.

Five hours after our arrival in Kammenoi, and whilst endeavoring to get some sleigh for Anadyrsk in expectation to find there the other party, several inhabitants of Anadyrsk came to the village on their way to Ghijiga. They left Anadyrsk when the river was frozen and the winter roads fairly established, and knew nothing whatever of the telegraph.
