Colonel Charles S. Bulkley
Engineer in Chief
of Overland Telegraph

Colonel,

I reached Ghijiga last night coming from Okhotsk and hastened to address to you this brief report.

Lieut McCrae's party has not been very successful, they remained at the mouth of the Anadyr until Kennan's arrival, who took them with him as well as their supplies and brought them to Anadyrsk with the exception of Messrs. McCrae and Arnold,
[[margin]] (10) [[/margin]] who had left Camp with a party of Tshuktshis twenty-three days before Kennan's arrival and were not heard of since. I enclose a copy of Lieut Kennan's report.

Traders from Anadyrsk arrived here this morning and informed me that the two missing officers reached the settlement in good health and safety, having wandered with Tshuktshis sixty four days.

Kennan was preparing according to the
[[margin]] (20) [[/margin]] instructions which I gave him after I received your Courier from Petropavlowsky, to leave for Ghijiga together with McCrae and Arnold and we expect them here
