Sound Golovine on the North side of Norton Sound.  Suitable timber for poles of good quality can be easily attained.  The Youkon River has been thoroughly examined with reference to its capabilities as affording a means of transportation for material and supplies, and the report is very satisfactory.

Full accounts of this river are given in the Reports of Messr's Ketchum and Pease.  During the present winter  Mr. Ketchum, with party, is ordered to explore the country between Fort Youkon Southward to junction with parties ordered North in British Columbia.  During the winter material will be transported inland, and at the earliest possible moment in the spring work will be actively commenced by the parties at Port Clarence and Oouakhlakleet [[?]], the present base of operations near the head of Norton Sound.

In the British Columbian Division Mr. Conway has completed a good road and line as far as Latitude 55° 42' North and Longitude 128° 15' West.  Considerable quantities of stores and material are on the ground, and everything is in readiness for pushing the work in the spring.

During the winter of 65 and 66 the lowest observed was 54° below zero on the shores of Norton Sound and in North Eastern Siberia.  The thickest ice, formed in still water, was less than five feet, and the heaviest snow North of 63° degree of Latitude, measured two feet.  Anadyr River was
