Sir:

Shortly after concluding my last Report, dated June 9/21 I received a despatch from Mr Harder, who had gone 30 versts up the Anadyr, to construct another raft, saying that it was impossible to get more than two houses at present, on account of the height of water. I had instructed him to get all he possibly could, and return the next day, as we had only two days provisions, and it was impossible to obtain anything this side of the Myan River, which place it was necessary we should start for as soon as possible.

We attached the two houses to the first raft, making in all l0 houses, which I proposed to erect at, and below Oochastika, along the Anadyr. I [[left margin]](10)[[/left margin]]had at first expected to carry 16 houses, in 2 rafts, one of which, Lieut Macrae would have taken to the mouth of the Krasnee River, and commence building at that point, but as we could get only one raft, I discharged all the men, but eight, who volunteered to accompany us.

The current, in the river, was very rapid, the water being more than 20 feet above its usual level, and as our men were all wholly inexperienced
