It was already past the time for the Tchuctchus to begin to appear, and fearing that they might have gone to Colema to trade I sent Kaschevin to some Karaks near Penjina to buy deer and have them driven to Marcova. The Ispravink had bought 170 deer which were in Penjina but as it was almost impossible to get dogs to transport them to Marcova and the expense would be so great if any nartes were procured, I endeavored to get them alive.

Febr. 5th some Karaks arrived with 36 deer a portion of which I sent to Mr. Lorton on the Myan and the remainder were consumed for dog food, to transport supplies to that place.

By these Karaks I learned that an other herd of  70 deer were on the way
