   Conway has been down here for a time and just returned. He is very independent and exhibited a petty jealousy of Robert K. that settled my opinion of him, very quick.
   Lt.Col. Wicker the new arrival, & Conway had a set to with the Col. the other day in the office.
   Wicker said he wouldn't be under Conway & that he (W) was going to be second in command! Conway ditto as to Wicker, ditto ditto. Col. said neither could be second in command as Scammon was already so. Both swore they wouldn't be under a damned sailor. Col. told them to go to hell the whole pile of them, that he didn't care how soon they went and he wouldn't have any body under him he was afraid of. Anvil chorus followed and the hatchet was buried under a julep.
  Conway has very grand ideas, but has had reason to be angry from the non-fulfillment of Bulkleys pledges to him in regard to outfit &c. They have bought another sailing vessel the "Rutgers" bark.
