San Francisco, June 5 1866

Dear Robert,

On the very faint chance of your finding your way out of the wilderness, where I cannot reach you, I forward an approximation to a report.

First, an account of the voyage, success in collecting and events in general, after I left you at Michaelovsky; will be found in all its minute particulars in letters to Prof. Baird and Geo. C. Walker to whom I wrote without reserve enclosing copies of my Report to Col. B. and writing also a short Report for the members of the Chi. Acad. Sci. For events as they have occurred, see my letters to Prof. Baird written at nearly every steamer mail this winter. I have succeeded in obtaining a first rate outfit, of which a list has been sent to Prof. Baird, partly by good luck and partly by carrying [[underlined]]shenanigan [[/underlined]] as far as my own self respect would allow me to.
