I know I cannot do nearly as well as K could, but I may  be able to do enough to be worth while staying a year or two for. If not, send me word for God knows I don't want to stay. 
  I can't write a pleasant letter home, I have written a melancholy one telling about Robert's death and I have no heart to write more. Please write to my mother and say any thing cheering you can for I am afraid she will fret about me. (70 Warren Av, Boston)
     I feel sure there will be a big row at Frisco this winter, things cannot change for the worse. Fisher, out of spite to me, has not filled my requisitions for supplies of drugs although there are great plenty in the ship the supply is enough for four men we have nearly fifty. He is Surgeon in Chief, and his judgement is supreme on these matters and though every one sees the deficit, my hands are tied. I sent in a protest and copies of everything to the Col. but he is gone and I shall not hear of it till next August. A more low lived set of scoundrels
