it would be necessary to carry the line across the river, I observed particularly all the points where the river could be crossed without laying a cable. Below the mouth of the "Myan" there are only two places, where in my opinion it would be safe to string a wire.
There are several other points where the river is narrow enough, but the banks are altogether too low. I considered the right bank of the river, or southside as best suited for the line, and I would cross to the north bank, (if it should be necessary) at a point which I have called "Telegraph Bluff." It is marked on the rough sketch of the river, I enclose.
My reasons are these. The river in this vicinity runs through three or four different channels, separated by low wooded islands which in spring are entirely overflowed. The distance from the first channel on one side to the last on the other, is two or three versts, so that it would be impossible to carry a wire across, without placing poles on these islands. This of course would not be safe.
Below, where the river runs in one channel, it is either too wide or the banks too low. The second reason is, that by following the south bank it is possible to make the route of the line, both straighter, and shorter, crossing the tundras from the mouth of the "Myan" to "Dochostchicka" thus
