It is not my policy now to pay off my amiable friends (?) for their interference with my affairs but when I return to the East I'm very much mistaken if they dont find that I've a good memory for a gratuitous injury and some little evidence that will place them in an unenviable position

Finding that Col Bulkley was really [[strikethrough]] Incl [[/strikethrough]] inclined to continue the wrong view he entertained of affairs - I quietly but very energetically ran over all my back track and studied whether I had really made any serious blunder or was in reality in fault - satisfied that I was not and having collected all my letters and papers [[strikethrough]]so[[/strikethrough]] in sequence so as to demonstrate the truth of my statements if need be I begged Col Bulkley to let me go ahead and to give me some clear idea of his real wishes.
