Without exactly being open and candid with me he said he still wished me to explore from Frazer to the [[strikethrough]] You [[/strikethrough]] mo of Youkon.  He said I might have 50 men of my own choosing [[strikethrough]] and [[/strikethrough]] etc - He [[strikethrough]] st [[/strikethrough]] himself changed the heading of [[strikethrough]] the [[/strikethrough]] ^[[my proposed]] telegram to the Directors which really embodied the outline of my plan and wrote it -

"Col Bulkley orders me to make
"the exploration and do [[strikethrough]] the [[/strikethrough]] what I
"may consider expedient toward building
"the line after or during reconnaissance"

He admitted that in that shape [[strikethrough]] it [[/strikethrough]] it was all right - as I had always said that I wished him if possible to locate the line on paper himself when I should meet him at the Youkon ^[[with reports]] and in any event have all the credit. - I could not therefore see what practical and tangible difference there was [[strikethrough]] in his [[/strikethrough]]
