If the party descending the Liard River can reach Dease and Turnagain river by August 15th to 20th it might be found practicable for 4 or 5 men to continue the exploration Southward by land toward Babine and Stuarts Lake.

The Steamer should if practicable be provided with a mast (to be stepped when needed) and a sail - (The H. B. Cos. barges 30 feet long carry a large square sail which in fair winds they ascend the strongest current in the Youkon) On the upper Youkon it may be necessary to track (haul by ropes) up some short rapids.

Memo for outfit for 15 men

Ascending Youkon in Steamer 10 times the ordinary ration of Tea. 3 times the ordinary ration of Sugar. Nearly double the ordinary ration ^[[of other food]] will be required in this Climate.

Transcription Notes:
jeni92127 reviewed 30 Sept 2017 - "Dease and Turnagain river" entry "River" is plural and capitalized in the original - "Stuarts" looks like it is just "Stuart" in the original. [not to be confused with Stewart River which is in a different location] - "sail which" is "sail with which" in the original - transcriber uses "^[[" for insertion. The entire note is handwritten
