and most plausable [[underlined]] liar [[/underlined]] I ever met - I mention this because I've no doubt O Donohue has written to Rochester in the same strain as he has talked here - if so he will have injured Col Bulkley perhaps - The Col lately has punished him as severely as words could hurt him - But I believe the Col will find the fellow will try to avenge himself by writing a series of lies about him and the Exped - If he has not already done so gratuitously. —

In the box packed today I send some old drafts of my work here and a copy of the Requisition I made out from the Y (youkon) exped — the Col complains of the bulk ^[[& weight]] and in the red & blue pencil I altered and cut down the amt to suit the later reason and his objections to this weight — after all I'm sorry to find he has taken the advice of Mr. Hyde and others in preference to

Transcription Notes:
- transcriber uses "^[[" for insertion. - The whole note is handwritten - "reason" should be "season" [due to the late start of the exped.] - "this weight" is "the weight" in the original [[season?]] = would make sense for this to be "reason" but it doesn't exactly look like it to me. I agree it is "reason>" RK's "r's" look like "t's" but his "s's" look more like "s." See "strain" in fourth line of text. Cant make out the thing that looks like merged "YD." I think it is "s" - see 6 lines up for "send some"- nwmath
