I have tried to make all the friends I could for Bischoff here and I think he will have a splendid time.

I am to have the little steamer to go up the Youkon with but as I must tow a whale boat we shall get on but slowly. I I still hope however to reach Ft Youkon by open water under the circumstances I shall carry a good supply of provisions to whatever place I make winter quarters.

I have now added to my party of eight from Frisco - 9th the engineer of the little steamer (Mr Green a very pleasant young fellow) 10th Bannister to leave at Ft St Michals. 11th a Finlander from Sitka for Russian interpreter - This Finlander I hunted up myself here - He speaks English (as well as German) - He is a common man but good natured and honest and is very grateful to me for getting him away from here.

Altogether I begin to see the prospect of a break in the "fog" and hope to have a decent time of it as soon as Ive
