The Indians who brought them to the fort, and from whom I "pillaged" them, saw the mother, and say that she was of this species. The eggs appear like my identified ones. K 1154 [[underlined]] Bernicla canadensis [[/underlined]] 15 eggs. Youkon May 29. The mothers were killed, but the lots of eggs not being kept separate, I couldn't identify the parents. All were [[underlined]] B. canadensis [[/underlined]], and in fact no other goose breeds here. This nests on small islands, or the edges of large ones in the [[strikethrough]] Porcupine [[/strikethrough]] Youkon River. From 5 to 7 eggs in a nest. Not found nesting on any of the small lakes, where, however, the ducks are most numerous. K. 1157 [[underlined]] Spizella monticola [[/underlined]] 27521 [[female symbol]]. Youkon May 31. Nest on ground. Ovary of [[female symbol]] contained another egg[[strikethrough]]s[[/strikethrough]] - [[female symbol]] shot at the nest by an Indian. K 1160 [[underlined]] Zonotrichia gambellii [[/underlined]] 6358. 5 eggs. Youkon May 30. I saw & fired at the [[female symbol]] but couldn't get her - had a good view however. Nest on ground at the foot of a willow, among low willows near the river. K 1161 [[underlined]] Zonotrichia gambellii [[/underlined]] 6351. 3 eggs. Youkon May 30. Nest on ground. The [[female symbol]] was snared on nest, but eaten by dogs. She was seen distinctly by the fort interpreter who knows the species. Nest at the foot of a clump of dwarf willows, on [[strikethrough]] pretty [[/strikethrough]] dry ground, pretty thickly interspersed with dwarf willows, & very small spruces; no large trees. Nest similar to that of [[underlined]] Cupidonia cupido. [[/underlined]] I shot the [[female symbol]] as she got up. 1170 [[underlined]] Junco hyemalis [[/underlined]] 6421 3 eggs. [[strikethrough]] I saw [[female symbol]] close, and am sure of the genus, but not of the species.[[/strikethrough]]. Nest on ground at the foot of a clump of dwarf willows in rather open place.
