727 [[underlined]] Nettion carolinensis [[/underlined]] [[female symbol]], nest, & 8 eggs. Nest at the foot of a small spruce, in a mossy, half-barren, small, dry, plain. Nest 30 or 40 rods from water. The nest a simple depression in the moss but thickly lined with down. It was well protected by the overhanging branches of the spruce. The female fluttered slowly off along the ground at my approach, and I shot her as she left the nest.
